The Zomba District Council has reported that the death toll from recent heavy rains in the district has risen to two.

This follows the death of 25-year-old Kulekana Chauma, who drowned while attempting to cross the Sukamatumbo River.

As of today, 3,948 households have been affected by the disaster, with verification efforts ongoing to determine the full number of affected families.

The Zomba District Council has already begun providing assistance, reaching eleven camps where some of the affected residents are being accommodated.
