The Association of Social Workers in Malawi has drafted a Bill aimed at regulating the profession, with plans to present it before Parliament.
One of the association’s executive members, Collins Simkonda, said the proposed legislation is designed to address growing concerns over unqualified individuals delivering social services.
Simkonda has since urged the government to support the Bill, emphasizing that its enactment would strengthen professionalism and promote ethical standards in the field.
He made the remarks on Friday in Machinjiri, Blantyre, during the commemoration of World Social Work Day.
Speaking at the same event, Blantyre District Council Chief Social and Child Welfare Officer, Kumbukeni Kauwa, who was the guest of honour, highlighted key challenges affecting the delivery of social services in the district, including a shortage of social workers and limited funding.
