The National Registration Bureau (NRB) has announced a mass National ID renewal exercise targeting civil servants in Lilongwe, scheduled to run from April 15 to April 20, 2026.
According to a notice signed by NRB Principal Secretary, Patrick Machika, the initiative is aimed at bringing services closer to clients and reducing congestion at NRB offices.
NRB has also emphasized that all expired National IDs will be renewed during the exercise to ensure civil servants remain compliant without disrupting their work schedules.
Applicants who have lost their IDs will be required to present a valid police report before processing, while those with damaged or expired IDs must bring their old cards for renewal.
The phased rollout will begin at Capital Hill offices before extending to government offices in the City Centre, Area 4, Malawi Defence Force offices, Malawi Police Service Headquarters, and the State House Residence.
