Zomba City South Member of Parliament, Dr. James Mpunga, has launched the Osafowoka Football and Netball League as one way of reducing illicit drug use among young people in the area.
Speaking to YFM during the launch held at Mategula Ground, Mpunga said the initiative aims to keep people actively involved in sports, helping them manage stress and depression.
He noted that many individuals, especially youths, turn to harmful behaviors such as drug and alcohol abuse when they are idle.
Mpunga added that he will work with various organizations to introduce more programs that support people in rural areas and help reduce such behaviours.
“We will ensure that upcoming programs also involve parents,” he explained.
A total of 32 teams are expected to participate in the league, which has a sponsorship package of K10 million.
