At least 17 people were killed on Tuesday in a horrific road traffic accident involving a Malawi bound BRD Luxury Coach bus.

The accident fatal occurred along the Harare-Nyamapanda Road.

The bus, which was coming from Cape Town, South Africa, was carrying 63 passengers.

In a statement on Wednesday, police in Zimbabwe said 45 injured victims were admitted to Mutoko District Hospital and Kotwa District Hospital for treatment.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Malawi’s embassy office in Harare is working closely with authorities in Zimbabwe to assist survivors of the accident and arrange for the repatriation of the bodies of those who died.
