Minister of Natural Resources Patricia Wiskes has described poor waste management as a major challenge in Malawi, revealing that only three percent of waste generated across the country is currently being collected.

Speaking during a meeting with Ghana-based Jospong Group of Companies, Wiskes called on the private sector to partner with government in improving solid waste management systems.

She said the company has shown interest in investing in Malawi by turning waste into useful products, a move that could help protect the environment while creating jobs and economic opportunities.

Jospong Group Chief Investment Officer Noah Gyimah said the company’s mission is to protect the natural environment through innovative waste and environmental management solutions.

He noted that the company is already operating in several African countries, including Kenya, Ethiopia, Congo, Zimbabwe, Angola and Senegal.
