Plane crash committee may summon Chakwera, Kunkuyu

By Temwa Tembo

The Parliamentary Ad hoc Committee investigating the plane crash that killed nine people, including former Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima, says it may invite former President Lazarus Chakwera and former Information Minister Moses Kunkuyu to testify.

Committee Chairperson Walter Nyamilandu said the committee has not ruled out any option and that a decision on whether to summon the two former officials will be communicated to the public later.

The committee is also finalising plans to visit the crash site at Nthungwa in Nkhata Bay next Monday.

During the visit, committee members are expected to hear from community members who may have witnessed the aircraft’s final moments before it crashed on June 10, 2024.

Nyamilandu said the parliamentary secretariat is currently assessing information received and identifying additional witnesses who may appear before the committee ahead of the site visit.
