The Higher Education Students’ Loans and Grants Board (HESLGB) has recovered K360 million from former student loan beneficiaries during the first quarter of the 2026/2027 financial year.
In a statement, HESLGB Loans Recovery Director Paul Padambo said the recovery is a positive start, but more former beneficiaries need to settle their outstanding loans to help meet the growing demand for higher education financing.
Padambo said rising tuition fees, particularly in public universities, are putting increased pressure on resources available for student financing.
He has therefore urged former beneficiaries to honour their repayment obligations, stressing that the student loan scheme operates as a revolving fund.
