The pilot phase for the 2018 Population and Housing Census is set to be conducted in September in 10 selected districts across Malawi.

Spokesperson for the National Statistical Office (NSO) Kingsley Manda, told YFM online that they have finalized the Census Mapping Exercise.

“The exercise involved demarcation of new Enumeration Area (EA) boundaries for Traditional Authorities that were established after the 2008 Population and Housing Census,” Manda said.  

According to him, there will be an increase of EA’s from 13,000 in the 2008 census to over 20,000.

Manda said unlike in 2008, the 2018 census will use computerized system of data collection.

“We are going to use Computer Assisted Personal Interviews (CAPI) whereby interviewers will use tablets instead of paper questionnaires,” he explained.
