Malawi Police Service engages extra gear in fighting child abuse

Kanengo Police Station in Lilongwe has launched an initiative called Safer Schools Program in order to ensure the safety of pupils who are victimized in different ways.

Public Relations Officer for Kanengo Police Station, Laban Makalani told YFM that the first phase of the initiative is targeting the city’s primary schools.

Makalani said there are so many child abuse cases but only a few are reported to police.

He said some cultural practices influence children from not reporting any form of abuse they encounter.

Makalani said the initiative will thus help to create a platform for children in schools to be free when reporting cases to the police.

“Suggestion boxes have been put in all schools as an effective way of communicating with us.” he said.
