Weightlifters fundraise for Zomba orphans

Eastern Region committee of the Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi will on Saturday, February 3 hold a Big Walk aimed at fundraising for Malonje Orphanage in Zomba.

According to the event’s organizing chairperson Bright Limani, the fitness walk will start from Jokala Trading Centre along the Zomba-Lilongwe Road to Zomba City Centre.

Limani appealed to the people to take part in the exercise which will cover a distance of eight-kilometres.

“We would like to extend the invitation to all the people to join us in fundraising for the orphanage centre [Malonje] in Zomba. We want to buy food items and soaps to donate for the cause. We may need monetary and material support.

Limani said there will be a minibus to pick up those that will get tired during the big walk.

He further added: “The Big Walk will be of great importance to the health of the people. Come walk with us and gain healthy benefits. Let us avoid the risk of having non-communicable diseases apart from shedding of some weight. Be fit, strong and healthy.”

In a related development, the committee has also organized a healthy and fitness event called 2018 Zomba Open Cross-Fit Challenge which will be held at Mulunguzi Secondary School on 3 March.

Limani said the aim of the event is to promote health through ultimate competition. He added that the competitors are expected to take part in categories of jogging, squats, skipping, and bench press, among others.
