Weightlifters, Bodybuilders donate to Zomba orphans

Eastern Region committee of the Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi (WBAM) have finally donated food items worth over K160, 000 to Malonje Orphanage Centre in Zomba.

According to the committee’s chairperson Bright Limani, the donation is as a result of the proceeds generated from a Big Walk which they held two weeks ago in the district. Limani said they had a successful exercise which started from Jokala Trading Centre to the Town Centre.

“It was great success and we have contributed to the society. We have shown that power lifters, weightlifters and bodybuilders can equally contribute positively to the society. We expect to continue undertaking such initiatives and reach out to some needy and vulnerable people in our society,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the orphanage, Enelesi Bamusi expressed gratitude for the donation. “We never expected weightlifters to come forward with such an initiative. This is really great and the donation will go towards its intended beneficiaries,” she said.

Some of the donated items include packets of sugar, cooking oil, pencils and pens, exercise books and loaves of bread, among others.
