18 trafficked girls rescued in Lilongwe

Eye of the Child has rescued 18 young girls and women who were trafficked from various districts of the country to the capital city, Lilongwe, for prostitution.

Executive Director for the organization, Maxwell Matewere told YFM that the women are from four districts.

“Currently we have managed to rescue 18 young girls and women from Phalombe, Blantyre, Chiradzulu and Chikwawa who were trafficked,” he said.

Matewere said that all the suspects who took part in trafficking the young girls and women have all been arrested awaiting trial.

He said this has been achieved sensitization campaigns on Trafficking in Persons Act which he organization is conducting in different parts of the country.

“Since the onset of the campaign on 1st April this year, the progress is going on well and people are in full support of the campaign,” Matewere said.
