Wrestlers to battle for supremacy

Athletes from all the four regions of the country are expected to compete for supremacy in a wrestling championship competition in Lilongwe on June 30.

The competition which will take place at Kamuzu Institute for Sports, has been organized by the National Wrestling Association of Malawi.

Chairperson for both the association and the event, Bright Limani, said a total of 20 wrestlers are expected to compete for the medals.

Limani said: “We expect to have representatives from all the wrestling zones across the country with different categories including heavy weight, light heavy weigh, middle weight and light weight.”

He further promised fans that they will witness a memorable reality show.

“People have been watching the game of wrestling on the screens but now it’s time for them to witness the sport live on stage and performed by Malawian wrestlers,” said Liman.

The contestants have been drawn from the cities of Blantyre, Zomba, Lilongwe and Mzuzu and each city has contributed five athletes.

Medals plus different prize money will be awarded to the winners.

Such a national competition is the third to be organized by the association since its inception in the country in 2013.
