State withdraws insulting state president charge against Kalindo

The State has withdrawn one charge of insulting the state president in the trial against UTM party youth director, Bon Elias Kalindo.

Lead prosecutor, Superintendent Christopher Katani who is also the Eastern Region Prosecuting Officer told the Chief Resident Magistrate Court in Zomba on Friday that the state is not ready to continue with the charge.

Meanwhile, Kalindo will only answer one charge of disorderly conduct at a police station which he denied in court on Friday.

Chief Resident Magistrate Mzondi Mvula adjourned the case to February 19 this year.

The court earlier revoked the bail it granted to Mr. Kalindo for failing to surrender his passport as one of the conditions for his bail.

The outspoken Mulanje parliamentarian was told not to leave the court until he surrenders his passport.

Kalindo committed the offences at Balaka Police Station after the detention of two aides of Vice President Saulos Chilima.

He was later arrested by the police in Lilongwe.
