Zomba City Council (ZCC) has intensified inspections of shops and restaurants as a way of flashing out rotten foods and other expired products.

ZCC Public Relations Officer Mercy Chaluma told YFM that the inspections which are being done on weekly basis have revealed that there are still some shops and restaurants that are selling rotten food and expired products.

“One of the roles a Zomba City Council is to ensure that the merchandise that are being sold especially fresh food stuffs like meat are good for consumption so I will be visiting the shops and restaurants weekly to check if they are not rotten and expired,” said Chaluma.

She  said the council will continue confiscating all products that are rotten and expired if found to ensure that customers are getting quality food stuffs.

“In the long land we hope that we will be able to root out the tendency as it shows that there are still some shops which are selling rotten food stuffs and expired merchandize,” said Chaluma

The shops that the council will be inspecting are those found in Sadzi, Central and Chinamwali zones.
