No Airtel money for southern region Super League teams

The battle for supremacy in the 2019 Airtel Top 8 trophy has reached semifinal stage, leaving out teams from the southern region following the bowing down of Mighty Be Forward Wanderers after being ousted by Silver strikers on Tuesday.

Wanderers was until Tuesday, the only side from the region which was still in the race until the team lost 1-0 to Silver Strikers and shown the exit door.

The Nomads, went to the Bankers own backyard to try to turn the tables of the first leg match 1-0 defeat, but lack was not on their side and were hammered again by 1-0.

Midfielder Duncan Nyoni’s 40th minute strike, was enough to send the Nomads packing and allow the Bankers to proceed into the semi-final stage.

The Nomads have surrendered from the race by a 2-0 goal aggregate.

In another quarter final game on Tuesday, Bernard Chimayimba’s 49th minute goal took Masters security into the semi-final stage, through an away goal rule, after the team beat Kamuzu Barracks by 1-0 at Dedza Stadium,

Meanwhile, Silver Strikers, Masters Security, Mzuni FC and Karonga United have proceeded into the semi-finals which is slated for June 15 and 16.

In the semi-final stages, Silver strikers will face Masters Security while Mzuni FC will meet Karonga United.

The 2019 Airtel Top 8 trophy finals will take place either on June 29  or June 30.
