MEC institutes probe into missing of Chilima’s name in voter’s roll

The Malawi Electoral Commission – MEC has instituted an investigation into circumstances that led to the missing of UTM presidential candidate Saulos Chilima’s name in the voter’s roll.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that Chilima’s name was transferred illegally by one of the biometric voter registration clerks from Lilongwe to Chiteko Primary school at Chizumulu Island in Likoma district.

MEC chairperson Dr Jane Ansah announced during a press conference in Blantyre on Tuesday that the commission is yet to register the motive behind the illegal transfer.

Chilima was allowed to vote after waiting for close to 30 minutes after his name went missing on the voters roll at St Thomas Anglican Church in Lilongwe City Centre Constituency.

As voting is in progress across all polling stations in the country, UTM Leader Saulosi Chilima has casted his ballot at St Thomas Anglican Church in Lilongwe City Centre Constituency where he registered.

The UTM leader, whose name went missing on the ballot list, voted after waiting for close to 30 minutes.
