Police recover six bags of Indian hemp

Police have recovered six bags of Indian hemp following a minor road accident at Dowa Turn Off.

Dowa Police Public Relations Officer Gladson M`bumpha, the Indian hemp was found in a motor vehicle, a Mercedes Benz Truck, registration number MH 4135 carrying bags of cement from Kasungu to Lilongwe.

On the particular day, the suspect was driving the motor vehicle loaded with bags of cement from Kasungu to Lilongwe

Upon arrival at Dowa Turn Off, he lost control of the motor vehicle and fell onto the offside pavement he then escaped the scene

Later when the driver’s employer arrived at the scene to offload the cement into another motor vehicle in the presence of police officers it was discovered that six bags of Chamba weighing 90 kilograms each were hidden in the middle section of the truck amongst the bags of cement.

Police seized the bags of Chamba and meanwhile investigations are underway to trace and arrest the driver of the motor vehicle Felix Chiwembu.
