Taxpayers to be strained ahead of fresh elections

An economist has warned of tough economic times ahead of the fresh elections as taxpayers will foot the cost of the election.

The economist Sam Chiwaula told YFM that Malawians will be affected economically.

However the economist said Malawians should be ready because good governance has a cost and it is also critical in achieving economic development.

“What is paramount is the choice of the people, if something was wrong people were not supposed to keep watching.”

Chiwaula therefore said the amount of money spent to hold the fresh elections does not matter so long as the elections are conducted freely and fairly.

Parliament will meet in 21 days to make arrangements of the next election which is also another cost for tax payers.
