Malawi records 19 new Covid-19 cases

Malawi on Sunday recorded 19 new Covid-19 cases raising the number of infections to 749.

Presidential Task Force Co-chairperson Dr John Phuka said 10 of the new cases were identified at Mwanza boarder during a routine screening.

No new recoveries and no new deaths have been recorded in the past 24 hours.

Of the new cases, eight are from Lilongwe of which seven are contacts to a confirmed case and one has travel history outside the country, the other one is from Chitipa a contact to a confirmed case as well and 10 were identified through the routine screening exercise being conducted at Mwanza border.

Cumulatively Malawi has recorded 749 cases including 11 deaths. Of these cases, 258 have now recovered bringing the total number of active cases to 480.

The country has so far conducted 10,880 COVID-19 tests in 34 COVID-19 testing sites.

The co-chairperson has also reminded the general public to continue adhering and practicing the covid-19 preventive measures like observing social distance, wash hands thoroughly and regularly with soap among others.
