7 foreign nationals arrested in Lilongwe

The Immigration Department and Citizenship Services on Thursday arrested seven foreign nationals in Lilongwe for being found without legal documents.

Central Region Immigration spokesperson, Ealack Banda said six are Nigerian nationals and one is a Ugandan national.

“We have arrested seven foreign nationals from Nigeria and Uganda who were found in falls estate in the in Lilongwe moving without having legal documents or any permits,” Banda said.

He has since said currently they are looking into their papers to verify if they have permits to stay in the country.

“We are looking into their papers to accesses if they have legal documents allowing them to stay or work in the country.”

The department has also cautioned all foreign nationals staying in the country to have their permit papers always whenever they are moving around in the country to avoid embarrassment.
