Congolese national arrested for rape

Police in Dowa have arrested a 30-year-old Congolese national for allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman.

Dowa Police Spokesperson Gladson M’bumpha identified the suspect as Abubaka Sidiki who allegedly raped a fellow Congolese on Monday afternoon at Dzaleka Refugee Camp in the district.

“It is reported that the victim and the suspect are neighbours and the victim’s husband is in South Africa while the suspect is single.

“It is alleged that on the particular afternoon, the woman was in her bedroom sleeping when the suspect broke the front window of a sitting room and entered,” M’bumpha said.

After entering, Sidiki went straight to the woman’s bedroom where he forcibly had sex with the lady after closing her mouth.

Although the victim tried to struggle, the man undressed her and fulfilled his lust.

Later, the victim reported the matter to Congolese community leader who advised her to report the matter to police.

The victim was later issued with a medical form for examination and treatment at Dzaleka Health Centre where it proved that the woman was indeed raped.

Following the incident, police arrested the suspect and will appear before court soon to answer a charge of rape.

Both the suspect and the victim are from South Kivu Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
