Ombudsman scrutinizing BWB power abuse report

The Office of Ombudsman says it is currently scrutinizing a report from Blantyre Water Board (BWB) on allegations of nepotism, tribalism and abuse of office.

This follows the expiry of an ultimatum which the office gave BWB to send a comprehensive report as part of the investigation on the allegations.

Spokesperson for the Office of the Ombudsman Arthur Semba said the board cooperated and that the office is yet to determine on the allegations.

There are allegations of irregular recruitment of employees at the board including the Chief Executive Officer Daniel Chaweza and BWB Director of Administration and Human Resources Anne Chipaka.

There are also claims of irregular transfer, demotion of some staff, unfair dismissals and employment of relatives and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporters.
