ACB calls on Malawi Prisons Service to stop pardoning corruption convicts

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has asked the Malawi Prisons Service not to pardon corruption convicts as one way of showing seriousness in fighting corruption.

Every year, Malawi Presidents usually pardon prisoners as part of independence celebrations.

Head of ACB in the Eastern Region, Anafi Likwanya stressed on the need that all the corruption related convicts should complete their full prison sentences to deter the would-be offenders.

He made the remarks at the Zomba Central Prison when the bureau donated toiletries to inmates as part of marking the end of the anti-corruption month which commenced on November 9, this year.

Officer-In-charge for Zomba Maximum Security Prison, Assistant Commissioner Thomson Nthute said his office will smoke out all the prison officers who connive with the convicts as well indulge in corrupt practices.
