Malawi to experience Mwera winds

The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services says most areas across the country are expected to experience a wave of rainfall activities associated with thunderstorm this week.

According to Director in the Department Jolamu Nkhokwe, there will be a slight drop in temperatures and occurrence of fog and drizzles particularly over the high ground areas.

“As from Sunday March 28 and Wednesday 31 March 2021, most areas in the south, center and north are expected to experience a wave of rainfall activities associated with thunderstorms particularly along the lakeshore areas.

“This will be followed by a drop in temperature and occurrence of fog,” said Nkhokwe.

Nkhokwe said this is due Mwera winds as the country is experiencing a cool airflow from the south east.

“Rough waters are expected over the lake. This is due to Mwera winds as cool airflow injected from the south east invades the country,” said Nkhokwe.

The Department has since advised that lake users should avoid using the lake whenever there are Mwera winds over the lake.
