Strong winds kill one, damage 938 houses in Phalombe

Reports indicate that at least 938 houses have been affected by strong winds in Traditional Authority Chiwalo’s area in Phalombe district.

According to Phalombe District Council 30 houses are completely damaged, 21 houses are partially damaged whilst 887 have their roofs blown off.

The council has further stated that a child has died after sustaining severe burn injuries from a house that caught fire.

Four people have sustained injuries.

Phalombe’s District Commissioner Rodrick Mateauma said further assessments of the situation are underway.
