Caregivers to wait longer for honoraria

By Esnart Chingwalu

Caregivers in Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers will have to wait a little longer before they start receiving their honoraria as authorities are yet to finalize the process.

The move follows a plea by stakeholders to government to consider providing stipends to ECD caregivers who are currently working on a voluntary basis.

Chief Child Development Officer in the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare Pauline Simwaka attributed the delay to the unexpected increase in the number of caregivers.

Simwaka said she is not certain as to when the process would be finalized.
