Zomba Chief Resident Magistrate, Austin Banda, has released on bail Bon Kalindo in a case he is answering of publishing a false statement which is contrary to Section 60 (1) of the Penal Code.

The court heard that whilst addressing a crowd gathered for demonstrations in Mangochi last Thursday, Kalindo published a false statement to the effect that former deputy Speaker, the late Clement Chiwaya, was killed at Parliament Building in Lilongwe.

He was released on bail conditions of K200, 000 bail bond, he should be reporting to Lilongwe Police every two weeks and surrender all his travelling documents.

The defense lawyer, Gilbert Khonyongwa told the court that Kalindo deserves the bail as he is not a flight risk.

However there was drama when the police re-arrest Kalindo immediately after his bail was granted.

On the recent arrest, Kalindo is charged for malicious damage and money laundering.
