Water Boards fight non-communicable diseases using sports

In a bid to keep bodies healthy and fit, water boards from all the regions in the country have been involved in various sporting activities, in what they are calling the inaugural Inter-Water Boards Sports Festival taking place in Zomba.

Participating teams include Northern Region Water Board, Southern Region Water Board, Central Region Water Board, and Blantyre Water Board.

Speaking in an interview, the president of the Water Services Association of Malawi (WASAMA), Robert Hanjahanja, said they thought of organizing the sports event as one way of fighting non-communicable diseases among workers in the water utility service providers.

“For workers to keep fit and healthy, they need to do exercises and sports is one of the efficient ways. We have organized netball and football games for a start this year. Getting together like the way we have done is also one of the ways to team building. Interpersonal relationships are enhanced, and this is good for the institutions we are working with,” Hanjahanja said.

The games are being held at the Zomba Gymkhana Club football ground and are expected to wind up on November 22, 2022.
