Youth rights activists have asked authorities responsible for recruitment process of members of the youth Parliament to thoroughly investigate localities of interested candidates.

The advice comes after the National Assembly spoke against the tendency of some youth’s especially those in urban areas who migrate to their home of origin to enhance chances of winning.

One of the activists, Chimwemwe Kaonga said district councils should work with chiefs from respective areas among others to curb the malpractice.

“Those in recruitment process should have an idea of where that particular person is based through traditional authorities,” he said

On his part, Lucky Mbewe said the previous cohorts have been dormant due to bias and political interference in recruitment processes hence the need to conduct the process in a transparent manner.

“We should acknowledge that the previous cohorts have not been successful solely because of selection process and this need to be dealt with,” he said.

Meanwhile, Parliament has called on interested youths between the ages of 10 to 25 across the 193 country’s constituencies to apply for the Third Youth Parliament.
