The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested the spokesperson for the Judiciary Mlenga Mvula for corruptly soliciting sums of money and other favours from his church, United Methodist.

ACB Senior Public Relations Officer, Egrita Ndala, said Mvula, on several occasions demanded various sums of money amounting to K10.7 million in 2016 and 2017.

She said Mvula allegedly collected the money through Reverend Daniel Mhone, the Executive Church Member and Conference Superintendent, who has also been arrested.

She said the money was collected in the names of High Court Judges and the Attorney General’s office.

“This money was purportedly meant for the Attorney General’s office, judges, Judiciary and Mr Mlenga for influencing the outcome of a Court case involving Reverend Jawati and the United Methodist Church,” she said.

Mvula is likely to be charged with obtaining money by false pretences and misuse of public office.

His accomplice, Rev Mhone, is likely to be charged with corrupt practices with a public officer.
