Transformation Alliance (TA) leader, Moses Kunkuyu, has announced his membership to the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Kunkuyu, who once served as Minister of Information during Joyce Banda’s Peoples Party (PP) administration, said he has decided to join MCP after realizing that the party’s manifesto is also in line with the Transformation Alliance ideologies.
Kunkuyu said: “My options were both for DPP and MCP but the decision has been reached after weighing both camps based on their performance and manifesto and I found MCP wanting in a big way hence my decision to serve MCP so that it carries hopes of the people in the 2019 elections.”
However Kunkuyu, who also once served as a member of parliament for Blantyre City South Constituency, said the Transformation Alliance grouping will continue its normal activities despite his absence.
Commenting on whether he will contest in any position as the party is heading for its convention in April, Kunkuyu neither confirm nor deny.
“I have just joined the party but am sure MCP members have the right to contest on any position so if given an opportunity I don’t have any reservations,” he said.
Moses Kunkuyu has joined a line of notable political figures who have recently boosted the main opposition side in the southern region, including another former minister Sidiki Miya.
