Student arrested for enrolling using fake papers

A female student at Daeyang Luke University in Lilongwe has been arrested for enrolling into the school using a fake Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) notification slip, police say.

Nancy Kumwenda, 34, is a first year student pursuing a Nursing and Midwifery program.

Kanengo police Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Makalani the student fraudulently secured a place into the university in September 2017.

He said the anomaly was discovered during a vetting process by the Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB).

“The school engaged the Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB), whereby security officers from the board established that the notification of the suspect, which indicated an aggregate of 15 points, was forged.”

Preliminary investigations reveal that the student, who is also a Nurse at Kasungu District Hospital, wrote her Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations at Kasungu secondary school in 2015.

Kamwendo, who hails from Chakachadza village in Traditional Authority Kachere in Dedza district, is expected to appear before court soon to answer charges of forgery.

Investigations by police into the matter are still underway.

Recently, Zomba Chief resident Magistrates court also sentenced a student from Chancellor College to 3 years imprisonment for using a fake certificate to be enrolled into the college.
