The trial of Masozi Chanthunya who is being accused of murdering his Zimbabwean lover Linda Gasa in 2010 has started at the High Court in Zomba on Tuesday.

State lawyer in the case, Pilirani Masanjala told YFM on Monday that the state was ready with all its witnesses was set for the trial on Tuesday.

Chanthunya arrived at the court on Tuesday morning ready for the hearing.

He is suspected to have killed Gasa following a disagreement over pregnancy issues.

Chanthunya went on the run after the body of Gasa was found concealed under concrete at a private cottage in Mangochi.

In June, 2018, the High Court in Zomba denied a bail application following doubts of his availability during the trial.

Presiding judge, Dr. Redsen Kapindu said the court had no assurance that the suspect will be available during the trial.

“The first time the suspect was recorded a caution statement by the police when it was noted that Linda is missing, he fled to South Africa and to the court, we suspect that he was escaping an arrest,” he ruled.
