Flame’s captain apologizes to Malawians

The Malawi National soccer team captain John Banda has apologized to all the soccer lovers in the country following the team’s failure to win a medal from the COSAFA cup tournament in South Africa.

Banda said he believes that Malawians will accept the apology because the team had displayed fantastic football throughout the tournament.

Banda said: “We promised Malawians that we will reach an advanced stage of the tournament but unfortunately luck was not on our side despite the team’s brilliant performance in all the games played and we apologize to Malawians for failing to honor the promise.”

On Friday, Flames failed to win the plate after losing to South Africa by 5-4 through post-match penalties.

Expectations from soccer lovers, were very high following the team’s brilliant performance right from their opening match at the tournament.

But the levels of expectations began to decline last Sunday after the team gave away a 2-0 lead against Zambia and failed to reach the semi-final stage.

Following the team’s painful loss to Zambia, the only consolation left was the plate.

But on Friday, despite putting a gallant fight, the team has also failed to grab the plate after losing to the hosts South Africa by 5-4 through post match penalties.

During the tournament, which began on May 25, Flames have proved to be a strong side, after playing 6 games, registering 3 wins, drawn once and lose twice.

Out of these games the team has managed to score 10 goals, excluding goals scored through penalty shootout sessions.

2019 COSAFA cup tournament winds-up on Saturday with a final match between the Zebras of Botswana and the Zambian Chipolopolo boys.
