At least 900,000 small holder farmers have benefited from the 2019/2020 Farm Input Subsidy Program (Fisp).
The ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development made the revelation as the program closed onĀ February 7, 2020.
In an interview with YFM spokesperson in the ministry Priscilla Mateyu said this year the program has been a success and issues of fake coupons that marred previous programs were not experienced.
Mateyu attributed the gains to collaborative efforts between the ministry, police, civil society, parliamentary committee of agriculture among others.
“This year, the program did not have a lot of problems and this is quite commendable our team from the ministry and other partners worked diligently to ensure the program succeeded.”
“All farmers who were targeted in the program received four coupons each and by November 2020 and all the farmers received the coupons and got the farm inputs the farmers in time for the planting season.”
Meanwhile the ministry is expected to release the projection of maize production for this farming season soon.
