Malawi registers second COVID-19 death, cases reach 12

Minister of health, Jappie Mhango, has on Saturday, April 11 confirmed the second COVID-19 death in the country, saying the second casualty is a Canadian of Burundi origin who died at Bwaila hospital in Lilongwe.

Speaking at a press briefing in Mzuzu, Mhango said the deceased’s wife has also tested positive.

According to Mhango, the man came into contact with many people because he went through many health centers when he got sick, using various means of public transport.

He said they are currently trying hard to track everyone who came into contact with the person.

The minister further said a man from Nkhotakota who recently returned from South Africa has also tested positive, bringing the number of confirmed cases at 12.
