Police in Dowa have arrested a 68-year-old man for allegedly killing his 27-year-old biological son.

Dowa police spokesperson Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha identified the suspect as Langani Mapira Malizani and the deceased as Brave Malizani both from Chisenga Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa District.

It is alleged that the deceased had a tendency of causing trouble at the family once drunk.

On Sunday April 19, 2020, due to alcohol influence, the son, Brave Malizani started damaging property.

Angered, the suspect tried to stop him but the son who also had a knife, beat him.

To defend himself, the father snatched the knife and stabbed the son on the collar borne to death.

Following the incident, one of the relatives to the deceased was called to witness the incident and took the suspect to police for safety.

Meanwhile, the body is being kept at Dowa District Hospital pending postmortem.

The suspect will appear before court soon to answer a charge of murder.
