Two die in road accident in Dowa

Two people have died in a road accident in Dowa after a motorcycle they were riding on collided with a motor vehicle on Sunday.

Dowa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha said bodies of the two deceased, whose full particulars not yet established, are at Mtengowanthenga Mission Hospital Mortuary waiting for identification by relatives.

M’bumpha  said the accident which happened near Super Sink Garage along Lilongwe-Kasungu Road, involved a motor vehicle registration number MG 733 AM Toyota Hilux Pickup, driven by Elina Khombe, 38, of Kapiri Village, Traditional Authority Tsabango in Lilongwe and an unregistered Rico Motorcycle ridden by an unknown male person.

“At the time of the accident, the motor vehicle registration number MG 733 AM Toyota Hilux Pickup was being driven from the direction of Kasungu heading Lilongwe,” he said.

“Upon approaching Super Sink Garage, it started overtaking a truck and in the process, it collided head on with an unregistered Rico Motorcycle ridden by an unknown man who had a pillion passenger on board.”

M’bumpha said due to the impact, the motorcyclist and the pillion passenger sustained severe head injuries and were pronounced dead at Mtengowanthenga Mission Hospital.

“The motor vehicle had its front offside fender damaged and front offside tyre deflated while the unregistered Rico motorcycle had its front wheel and handles twisted.”
