Parties promise peace ahead of election

Various political parties in the country, have promised to prepare their supporters to ensure they accept the results of the polls ahead of the fresh presidential election slated for June 23.

The main opposition, Malawi Congress Party (MCP), and Mbakuwaku Movement for Development (MMD) have said their party followers are aware of the criticality of the forthcoming elections and will never jeopardize the process.

On the other hand, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is yet to comment on the matter.

MCP’s publicity secretary, Reverend Maurice Munthali, said their party, which is also leading the Tonse alliance, has been preaching peace throughout the campaign period.

Muthali said: “We are always a peaceful party because we are led by a God fearing man and that’s why we have always preached peace and calm and it’s our hope that no violent act is going to come from MCP.”

In his remarks, presidential candidate for MMD, Peter Dominico Sinosi Driver Kuwani, said his party has zero tolerance on violence.

Kuwani further insisted that MMD political agenda is supreme than any of their fellow contestants.

“Our party does not provide room for politics of violence and castigation and more importantly we preach peace on the understanding that we are in a democratic society.”

Recently, the Young Politicians Union (YPU), called on all political parties in the country to start preparing their supporters to accept the results of the polls ahead of the fresh presidential election slated for June 23.
