Mera CEO, three others granted bail

Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera) Chief Executive Officer Collins Magalasi and three other co-accused have been released on bail.

Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate Violet Chipawo on Wednesday has asked the accused to pay each a cash bond of K500,000 and provide two sureties bonded at K5 million each.

The accused have also been asked to cooperate with police, not interfere with state witnesses and report to police once every fortnight on Tuesday.

Magalasi, Mera’s Patrick Maulidi and Bright Mbewe and businessperson Dorothy Shonga, are answering three counts of fraud, money laundering and entering into a contract with an employee through a K107 million procurement deal.
