Government has shifted dates for resumption of internship programme for the youth to October 1, 2020.

Initially, the graduate interns under the Youth Internship Programme were expected to get back to various workplaces on August 3, 2020.

A statement signed by Secretary for Labour Esmie Kainja said the delay is due to additional measures following a spike in Covid-19 cases.

Amid the surge, the Presidential Committee on Covid-19 advised government to operate at 5 percent in all its departments and agencies.

Finance Minister Felix Mlusu announced in Parliament last month that government will expand the programme as part of the National Youth Service Programme which will be introduced soon.

Mlusu also told lawmakers that the private sector will also give internship opportunities to the youth.
