Kalilani, Chingwalungwalu out on bail

The Lilongwe Principal Resident Magistrate`s Court has released on bail former acting Director of the National Intelligence Service Kenam Kalilani and Chief ICT Officer for State Residences Chancy Chingwalungwalu.

The two are answering a charge of theft of government computer, an offence which they allegedly committed in June this year.

The Court has since asked the two to pay K500,000 each as bail bond and one surety each bonded at K500,000 non-cash and that they surrender their travelling documents to Court.

In an interview, one of the lawyers Madalitso Kawusi said his clients will comply with Court`s directives.

“They have been cooperating all along and we respect the court`s decision and our clients will abide by that,” he said.

The accused are also expected to be reporting to police once every fortnight and cooperating with the police on investigations that are said to be underway.

The Court was supposed to make its ruling on bail application last week, but the Magistrate travelled to Blantyre.
