Paramount Chief M’mbelwa V of Mzimba District has fired Group Village Headman German Mahowe for marrying a 17-year old girl who he started dating when she was 14.

Inkosi ya Makosi M’mbelwa told YFM on Tuesday said that it sad that Mahowe, 42, who was one of the champions in child protection in M’mbelwa’s chief council, has done the opposite.

The paramount Ngoni chief said he is only a whistle blower in the matter and that law enforcement agencies will do the rest.

He has therefore asked the youth in the country to be responsible by keeping themselves away from engaging in early sex and marriages.

Meanwhile, NGO Coalition on Child Rights (NGO CCR) has applauded the paramount chief for acting swiftly against his subject for violating rights of a girl child.

NGO CCR National Coordinator Henry Machemba said it is high time that those in authority are exemplary towards the protection of child rights in the country.

Matemba has however demanded further action by the law enforcers on Group Village Headman German Mahowe.
