Govt asked to prioritize families of street-connected children

Yohane Banda Foundation has tipped government to prioritize families of children connected to the streets when identifying beneficiaries of Covid-19 urban cash transfer.

Speaking to YFM children’s desk- founder for the organization, Yohane Banda said 90% of families of children found in the streets are not economically empowered.

Meanwhile, the organization has prepared a fundraiser that will run from April 2-3 in Blantyre, with an aim of raising resources for the two families that look after children that were once on the streets.

Meanwhile, minister of gender, community development and social welfare, Dr. Patricia Kaliati has re-echoed the warning to arrest all guardians and parents that neglect their warders.

Kaliati said; “It has to the ministry’s attention that some parents send their children to start begging in the streets instead of sending them to school.”

According to Global Giving, Malawi has over 4 thousand children living in the streets of Zomba, Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.
