The Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate`s court has committed to High Court a case involving Former Malawi Broadcasting Cooperation (MBC) Director General Aubrey Sumbuleta who is answering six counts which include indecent assault and abuse of office.

Sumbuleta, who appeared in Court on Wednesday, was arrested last week by police in Blantyre in connection to findings by a Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) investigation report into the alleged sexual harassment of female employees at MBC.

according to the State, the nature of the case requires that it should be heard in the upper court.

Meanwhile, Sumbuleta is still in police custody and the High Court is yet to set date for commencement of trial.

Some of the counts date back to 2014 when Sumbuleta is alleged to have committed the offenses.

Among other recommendations, the MHRC report recommended that MBC should compensate four survivors while the survivors consider pursuing the matter in court for proceedings.
