Lack of knowledge fueling human trafficking cases

Lack of knowledge in handling human trafficking cases has been singled out as one of the contributing factors to failure to convict such cases in court.

This has been disclosed during official opening of a four-day training which has attracted over 90 police officers in Mangochi.

According to Mangochi police officer in charge, senior assistant commissioner Francis Chisoti, Mangochi is one of the districts that registered high cases of human trafficking in 2020 as it is a border district.

“The training will impart knowledge on police officers in the district on how to handle knowledge trafficking cases,” he said.

Chisoti also said that survivors of trafficking are usually subjected to sexual exploitation, forced labor among others hence the need for law enforcers to root out the malpractice.

Speaking to one of the participants, sub inspector Gift Maggie Karoti expressed optimism that the training will help them an extra mile in dealing with the cases.

The four day training which commenced on Tuesday and has attracted 96 police officers, was organized by Love Justice Malawi.
