Court finds ex-Masm official with case to answer

The Chief Resident Magistrate Court in Blantyre has found former Medical Aid Society of Malawi (MASM) Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Ngomwa with six counts to answer in a case in which he is alleged to have defiled his 16-year old niece in August, 2020.

Making her ruling on Tuesday, Chief Resident Magistrate Jean Kayira said the court has proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused indeed defiled the girl.

The charges include rape, defilement, indecent practice in presence of a child, sexual intercourse with a minor and procuring defilement by administering drugs.

Lawyer for the Defence, Fostino Mayere, said his client will give evidence and call for witnesses when the case resumes on July 1, 2021.

Senior State Advocate, Gift Msume, expressed satisfaction with the ruling.
