Man sentenced to 3 years in prison for theft

The second Grade Magistrate’s Court in Balaka has sentenced 24-year-old Ramzy Kazembe to three years in prison for theft.

According to Sergeant Precious Makuta, the incident happened during the nights of 19 and 20 June, 2021, at the dwelling house of Austin Paul at chikondano village, Traditional Authority Chanthunya in the district.

“The complaint who blews local beer on this day operated his business utill the closing hour and the accused who is his neighbour was there entertaining himself and later committed the crime,” Makuta said

The convict went away with one chicken and other assorted items amounting to k11,600.

The community policing members of the area reported him to police after being found with the stolen items in the morning of the following day.

In his rulling, Second Grade Magistrate Peter Nkuzi found Kazembe guilty and slapped him with three years imprisonment and hard labour.

Kazembe hails from Mkwezalamba village, Traditional Authority Chanthunya in Balaka district.
